Social Media Editor (m/f/d)

As an Editor for Social Media you are going to be responsible for filtering interesting facts from our ongoing video research and additionally researching facts yourself that are suitable for social media content as well as standalone merchandising products. You are also responsible for suggesting, elaborating on and serving content formats and writing daily texts, in short and long form, as a basis for new science posts and short videos that are going to be published on our social media channels. You will work closely with the editorial team and also be in constant exchange with the Illustration, Animation, Design, Social Media and Product Teams and also communicate with various external experts.

To do this, you’ll also use your editorial background to read and summarize technical literature and evaluate the quality of studies and sources. You have a flair for interesting stories and crisp facts. You’re curious and proactive about diving into different projects and unearthing the hidden gems of information for social media and content apart from YouTube videos and merch from then. In doing so, you always look at topics in an unbiased and neutral way. Ultimately, you are the source of ideas for our social media channels, with which you help to represent the company to the outside world.

The quality of the texts and factual accuracy of the content of our editorial team is the flagship of kurzgesagt – we want to explain complex things simply and correctly. We don’t do politics. Your tasks

  • Identify crazy, interesting and surprising aspects in new and old topics
  • Collect and prepare research content from the video process for secondary use on social media and in merchandising products
  • Documenting research and creation processes for behind-the-scenes content on social media
  • Writing scripts as a basis for short videos spanning from 30 seconds up to 3 minutes for Instagram and TikTok
  • Research and prepare content for merchandising products such as infographic posters and other print products as well as apps and other digital/interactive products
  • Independently suggest content formats and series in consultation with social media direction
  • Follow up on scientific questions brought up within the social media community – either to be elaborated in a short video script or an answer for community management
  • Willingness to discuss crazy ideas on a scientific basis
  • Contact with scientists and experts
  • Close contact and exchange with the rest of the editorial team and the social media department
  • Option of writing scripts for commercial and customer videos (independent of the YouTube channel)
  • Adherence to the quality standards for our content creation
  • Overview of current research and projects as well as pre-selection and preparation of suitable content
  • Pioneering new crazy ideas for social media formats and content

Your profile

  • University degree (Msc, PhD) preferably in natural sciences or journalism
  • at least one year of professional experience in copywriting for social media
  • desirable: experience in scientific writing and researching, further experience in copywriting for commercial clients
  • ability to prepare scientific texts in a concise and understandable way
  • Experienced in using research tools and English primary sources
  • Ability to quickly and thoroughly familiarize yourself with a wide variety of topics
  • Careful, quality-conscious, independent and structured way of working
  • Persistence and you do not settle for the first best answer
  • Enthusiasm for discussion and willingness to think through crazy ideas
  • Enthusiasm for scientific work that has a positive impact on potentially millions of people
  • Very good German and English skills, both written and spoken
